Stolen vehicle linked to armed robbery in Strubenvale

Springs police and Benoni Flying Squad members arrested three suspects for being in possession of a stolen vehicle.

One suspect is aged 21 and the other two are 25 years old.

According to Capt Johannes Ramphora, Springs police spokesman, the suspects were arrested on Friday, in Payneville, after police followed up on information about a possible stolen vehicle.

The police received information at 8am from a tracking company about the stolen vehicle.

Ramphora says the tracking company contacted Const Jaco Powell, from the Benoni Flying Squad, again at 11am when they picked up the signal in Slovo Park.

“When the police arrived at the house in Slovo Park they found the gold VW Polo Vivo hidden behind a shack,” says Ramphora.

The owner of the shack allegedly took the police to Payneville where they arrested the three suspects.

Ramphora says the recovered vehicle was stolen during a house robbery in Strubenvale at 2am on Friday.

Three suspects, one armed with a knife, entered a bedroom in the house in Sutherland Avenue, assaulted the homeowner and ordered him to keep quiet.

The victim was tied up with wire and the suspects threw a blanket over his head.

A TV, laptops, cellphones, electrical appliances, jewellery and a tablet were taken.

“The suspects allegedly put their loot into the VW Polo Vivo and drove off with the vehicle.

“The three suspects arrested in Payneville will be charged with being in possession of a stolen vehicle and are expected to appear in the Springs Magistrate’s Court soon,” says Ramphora.
