Open electrical wires in Springs attract curious children

Geduld resident Boswild Botha (73) is distressed about the open electrical box on a lamp post on the corner of Knight and Kruger streets, Petersfield.

He says he first noticed an open electrical box in Knight Street, allegedly left open by metro workers a few months ago.

“I reported the open electrical wire on the lamp post as well as the open box at the same time,” he says.

The metro came to lock the open electrical box on January 5.

However, Botha claims they failed to replace the cover to protect the wires on the lamp post.

“The wires have insulation tape around them but I fear for the safety of the children in the area as loose electrical wires are dangerous,” says Botha.

Directly next to the lamp post there is another electrical box where the bottom part of box is also missing.

“There are no live wires visible, the pipes covering the wires are clearly visible,” he says.

This was also reported by Botha on January 5.

“It is amazing how long the metro takes to react to complaints,” he says, “live wires are supposed to be hidden from curious children”.

A query has been sent to the Ekurhuleni Metro but no comment was received at the time of going to print.
