A Christmas treat for SA Epilepsy residents

The 85 residents at SA Epilepsy in Geduld were spoiled by the Dersley Community Association (DCA) and Father Christmas on Saturday.

When the DCA group arrived at the centre they were accompanied by Father Christmas and a few of his elves.

Each resident received more than one cupcake and sweets pack to eat and also received a cold drink.

Marié Buchner started this initiative in 2015 and was touched by the humble and kind residents.

“The idea of these residents having no family to go to over Christmas broke my heart and I decided to make a difference,” she says.

However, just a few cupcakes weren’t enough anymore and Marie decided to involve the DCA, increase the amount of cupcakes and add sweet packs and cold drink to the list.

With Father Christmas, the elves and a few young girls singing Christmas songs the team was ready to surprise the residents.

All the residents were waiting in the hall on the premises when the DCA group arrived.

“To see the excitement on their faces is overwhelming,” says MariĂ©.

Geduld Epilepsy resident Japie Brits was intrigued by Father Christmas and didn’t leave his side.

The two clapped hands to the Christmas songs and Japie was eager, still holding on to Father Christmas’ arm, to pose for a photo with his favourite person of the day.

The youngsters performed a dance item before they left the centre en route to Rus n Bietjie Retirement Home where they delivered more cupcakes.

“It was another successful day,” says MariĂ©.
