A 36-year-old man was allegedly assaulted by a group of people in Amabhoko Bhoko street in Payneville on Wednesday.

Police received information on an attempted murder in progress in the area, while they were doing routine patrols at 10.45pm.

SAPS spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora says the police found a group of people surrounding the man.

“The man had several bruises all over his body,” he says.

When the police asked for information, the community refused to co-operate.

Police found an ID laying next to the man, which identified the victim.

“This looked like an alleged mob justice scenario,” says Ramphora.
