R40 000 raised for Potters Haven girl’s eye op

It took the Valhalla Motorcycle Club six months to raise enough funds for an eye operation for a five-year-old girl at Potters Haven.

The Valhalla Motorcycle Club from Springs handed over a cheque of R40 000 to Potters Haven, to fund an eye operation for a young girl in their care, on Sunday morning.

They made a commitment in May to raise the money for a five-year-old girl with squint amblyopia, known as lazy eye in her left eye, which requires a strabismus procedure to correct, says club secretary Tracy Collins.

The club hosted a fund-raising event at The Deck in Selection Park in October, where Ghapi and Clint Cunningham performed.

She says they’ve received huge support from sponsors and that the fund-raising event was a big success.

She also points out that doctors and the Lakeview Hospital in Benoni itself, have been wonderful as they’ve reduced the fees for the procedure.

The club was also able to cover a R3 000 chemist’s bill in June.

Tracy says that Potters Haven is extremely grateful – and that they’re always loving and welcoming towards them.

“Words cannot express how grateful we are, for the help from the Valhalla bikers,” says founder of Potters Haven, Marlene Minnie.

According to Tracy, the little girl will see the doctor today and hopefully undergo the surgery early next year.
