UPDATE: Storm damage to Wildlife in Crisis Centre

The animals at the Wildlife in Crisis Centre are all safe.

Volunteers of the Owl Conservation Project and friends were seen lending a helping hand to clear the branches of Bluegum tree that fell onto the clinic at the centre.

The tree, which is believed to be 3m in diameter, was uprooted during a severe storm with an alleged wind speed of up to 50km per hour.

Phillip Viviers, a volunteer, escorted the journalist around the premises to show what was done to ensure the safety of the animals that ware kept in cages on the premises.

Some of the birds and tortoises were taken to the Friends of the Free Wildlife premises.

Phillip says this is only a temporary arrangement and the animals will be returned to the centre once the renovations are completed.

Judy Davidson from the centre says the rest of the birds, vervet monkeys and meerkat have been moved to her cottage.

Although she is grateful towards all the volunteers, without the help of the community the centre will not be able to be renovated.

Judy claims someone allegedly measured the windspeed during the storm to be approximately 93km per hour.

“When I saw the damage it was a great shock as the centre was renovated just over a year so,” she says.
