Deepavali Give a Tray handover to Chance Children’s Home
The annual Bhairavi Sungum of Springs’ Give a Tray on Deepavali Day project was held opposite the Bakerton Community Centre on Sunday.
Kesavan Pillay, chairman of the Bhairavi Sungum, says the project is always well supported by the community.
All items collected were handed over to the Chance Children’s Home in Dunnottar.
As part of the project, 30 Deepavali cheer hampers were handed out to families in the community for Deepavali, the Festival of Lights celebrations.

This initiative was undertaken by a group of business individuals known as the Thamiz Seva Sungam.
“We are proud to be associated with these individuals.
“Their contribution and distribution of hundreds of food hampers goes beyond Gauteng and as far as northern KwaZulu-Natal,” says Kesavan.
Deepavali is the Hindu Festival of Lights, celebrated throughout the world every year in autumn in the northern hemisphere and in spring in the southern hemisphere.

One of the major festivals of Hinduism, it spiritually signifies the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, knowledge over ignorance, and hope over despair.
“We acknowledge the contribution made by the community towards the project,” says Kesavan.
