Donations from Wings and Wheels handed over to charities

Staff from the Addie and the African Reporter handed over non-perishable food items to local charities which were collected during the recent Wings and Wheels event.

Non-perishable food items were distributed to Vita Nova Centre, the KwaThema Stimulation Centre, plus the Springs and KwaThema Child Welfare Society on Friday, 21 October.

The food provision was made possible by the Wheels and Wings event, recently hosted by the Springs Advertiser and the African Reporter.

The papers successfully hosted the fourth event of its kind at the Springs Airfield on September 10 – and asked the community to donate food for local charities at the gate, instead of charging an entrance fee.

Springs Park Rotary Club were kind enough to sort the food, while club president Ueli Hiller stored the items at his business in the CBD until a collection date was arranged.

Additional food was also purchased with cash donations received by the newspapers’ editor, Samantha Keogh.

Wings and Wheels is held bi-annually with the goal to provide the community with a great day out.

The event featured a myriad stalls selling items ranging from food to homemade items, while local businesses also had the opportunity to display their products in a large exhibition area.

Several bands such as The Barcode Bandits, No Regret, The Colour Blew, Last Chance Seattle and Skinnee Sunrise entertained the crowd on the day – in addition to the EMPD K9 Dog Unit, whose performance showed off their dogs’ intelligence.
