Mayor wishes class of 2016 luck with exams

Ekurhuleni mayor Mzwandile Masina wishes the class of 2016 luck with their upcoming exams.

Ekurhuleni mayor Mzwandile Masina released a statement on Wednesday, wishing the class of 2016 matrics luck with their upcoming examinations.

“You are in our thoughts and prayers every step of the way. Don’t drop the ball now after having worked so hard throughout the year. Give it one last push and make all of us proud,” he says.

Masina says he knows students have devoted a lot of time to ensuring that they pass this last hurdle in their schooling history and that many have already set their sights on tertiary education, as well as on a great start to their adult life.

He is confident that children will bear the fruit of their hard work, as great stability in the schooling programme has been witnessed this year.

“In the past couple of years, we have witnessed the education system in Gauteng migrating to digital; an innovation which was fully embraced by our learners and educators alike,” Masina adds.

In addition to improving the accessibility of free Wi-Fi, the city increased the bursary purse from R10-million to R100-m in an effort to ensure that deserving, underprivileged students who do well in matric, receive help for their tertiary studies.

“The youth of Ekurhuleni have done us proud in matric examinations over the years and I have no doubt that we can expect yet another success story this time around,” he predicts.

Masina also thanked parents and other stakeholders for their roles in preparing the matrics.

Quoting Nelson Mandela, he expands: ‘Parents have the right to choose the kind of education that shall be given to their children. Make every home, every shack or rickety structure a centre of learning. It all starts with education,” he ends his address.
