Bhairavi Sungum hosts Sarasvathee celebrations

The Bhairavi Sungum of Springs hosted their 24th Sarasvathee celebration on Sunday in the hall of the Springs Secondary School.

The multi-cultural heritage concert featured a packed programme of cultural items as well as numerous songs and dances followed by supper.

Guruji Hasmukhbhai Trivedi, resident priest of the Springs Hindu Seva Samaj, led the opening prayer along with learners from the Bhairavi Tamil School.

In keeping with tradition, all dignitaries participated in the lighting of the universal lamp.

Next students from the Bhairavi Tamil School performed four Thamizh recitals to showcase their language skills.

“Today, we celebrate our heritage, our diversity and our strength,” says Bhairavi Sungum chairman Kesavan Pillay.

He says he is privileged to witness the future of the heritage in the children and youth.

Dance items were performed by the Springs Hindu Seva Samaj, Sri Raam Bhajana Mandiram, the Bhairavi Tamil School, and the Benoni Tamil School Board who also performed a youth item.

The B & S Bhajan Group, Benoni Tamil School Board, Bakerton Bhajan Mandal, Sri Raam Bhajana Mandiram performed song items while cultural items were performed by the Springs Sanathan Ved. Dharam Sabba and the Springs Hindu Seva Samaj.

Prisheen Dhanjee Daya, educator and principal of the Step By Step Early Learning Centre, was the guest speaker at the event.

A vote of thanks was given by the treasurer of the Bhairavi Sungum, after which the closing prayer took place.
