EMPD K9 Dog Unit make valuable discovery

EMPD K9 Dog Unit members arrested a suspect and recovered solar panels at a house in Bafana Bafana Street, Payneville on Monday.

The 20-year-old suspect was arrested for possession of explosives and possession of suspected stolen property.

The suspect unlocked a room in the house where one solar panel and four Telkom performance batteries were found under his bed.

EMPD spokesman Clifford Shongwe says the suspect couldn’t provide proof of purchase.

When the EMPD unlocked another room in the house they found nine batteries, six solar panels and 54 connector capped fuses explosives.

The recovered goods were taken to the police station.

“We believe it is a syndicate who don’t just focus on one area,” he says.

Capt Johannes Ramphora Springs police spokesman says they called the SAPS Bomb Explosives Unit to dispose of the explosives.

The suspect remains in the police cells until his court appearance on Tuesday.
