Avonique is set to win the Miss SA Schools ambassador competition

Avonique van Rooyen (8), a Grade Two pupil at Laerskool Selectionpark, was selected as one of 40 finalists in the Miss SA Schools ambassador competition.

There are 10 finalists in each age category.

The main objective of this nationwide campaign is to train young students as ambassadors for their school.

Finalists are required to represent their schools as well as to get involved in community work.

Avonique’s crazy crayons project was held in aid of Kids with Cancer.

She had to make use of crayons to make cute animals, flowers and shells.

“One of the rules of the campaign was that the project had to cover the entry fee to show the student’s entrepreneurship,” says Tihani van Rooyen, Avonique’s mother.

Avonique recently visited the Cansa TLC Nicus Lodge in Pretoria where she hosted a fashion parade for the parents of the patients. She handed out gift parcels to the cancer patients.

The winners of the photo competition recently hosted at her school will be announced on Friday (September 30).

Other charity work she was involved in this year include a fund-raising event where the proceeds were used to buy school clothes for underprivileged children at her school. (‘Avonique (8) cares for other primary school learners, Advertiser June 20).

Tihani says her daughter was also involved in a local radio station’s winter drive where she and her brother Tihan (13) donated blankets.

This young beauty queen will compete in the SA Gymnastic Championships in Cape Town on October 6.

Avonique is also the titleholder of Miss Petite South Africa – Gauteng.
