EMPD arrest six suspects for possession of stolen vehicles

EMPD units recovered four stolen vehicles at a business in Second Street, Springs on Saturday.

Members of the EMPD Equestrian Unit, EMPD K9 Dog Unit and the Brakpan EMPD followed up on information received from the community.

The discovery lead to the arrest of six suspects aged between 19 and 32 years.

EMPD spokesman Clifford Shongwe says the suspects claim they are only working for the owner of the business.

The vehicles discovered include two GWM bakkies, one Hyundai, a Nissan 1400 bakkie as well as a Mazda 626.

“One of the GWM bakkies was allegedly fitted with a Mazda 626 chassis,” says Shongwe.

It is believed the recovered Nissan, which was white when recovered, had been resprayed to hide the original red paint.

The vehicles were allegedly reported stolen in Benoni, Boksburg, Linden and in Moroka, Soweto.

The six suspects were taken to the cells at the Springs Police Station and will remain there until their first court appearance.

The vehicles were taken to the Van Ryn Deep Vehicle Safeguarding Unit in Benoni.

Springs police spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora confirms the arrest and says the suspects will appear in court son.
