Robbers stab two men

Two people were stabbed during a business robbery in Libya Street, Slovo Park, on Tuesday.

A Springs policeman was on duty and was giving back-up to another police member chasing a hijacking suspect, at 7.45pm, when he was stopped by community members informing him of the robbery.

Capt Johannes Ramphora, police spokesman, says the people informed the policeman that three people were injured during the robbery.

When the policeman arrived on the scene he found the owner and his assistants with stab wounds.

The injured men said four men, two of whom were armed with firearms and two with knives, entered the shop and demanded cash.

“When the men refused, they were stabbed with knives,” says Ramphora.

The suspects took cigarettes, two cellphones and an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the scene on foot.

No shots were fired.

The injured men were taken to Far East Rand Hospital (FERH) for treatment.

Hendrik Buda, FERH spokesman, says only one of the patients was treated by a doctor, who subsequently discharged him.
