Daniel goes for gold

Daniel Ourique (14) recently received seven medals at the World Championships of Performing Arts in Los Angeles.

His seven solo dance items brought forth four gold and three silver medals.

Daniel, a Grade Nine learner from Hoërskool Hugenote, won gold medals for cha-cha and jazz, a musical character in the African dance Lion King and for ethnic/folk in which he did a bhangra traditional Indian dance.

The three silver medals he won was for contemporary, hip-hop and open dance items.

He also received a Champion of the World Divisional Winner trophy for cha-cha.

With his hip-hop item, Daniel was chosen as a finalist, one of the top five junior dancers at the competition to do so.

He also participated in the final showcase of the championships for his African dance hip-hop item and won a bronze medal.

Daniel is a student at Nicole’s World of Dance and loves the performing arts.

His mother, Maria Ourique, says watching him doing solo items is wonderful.

“We are very proud of him,” she adds.
