‘Metro does maintain roads’

Struisbult resident Peter Denton wants to know why the Ekurhuleni Metro does not repair the many potholes on the Springs roads.

“The storm water drains and pavements are not being cleaned, nor does the metro fix our bad road, which is part of their duties,” he adds.

“Perhaps, with Mayor Mondli Gungubele on his way out, we will be better off, with more money being available for repairs instead of it being spent on a silly Aerotropolis in Kempton Park, which would not have been much good for our town anyway.”

However, metro spokesman Themba Gadebe disagrees with Denton’s allegations and says the metro’s department of roads does execute “proper road repairs”.

“The department also executes regular routine as well as preventative maintenance as far as cleaning storm water drains are concerned,” he says.

As far as the metro’s plans regarding road repairs and maintenance of storm water drains are concerned, Gadebe says: “We can report that the department, apart from the various maintenance depots, has service providers and tenders in place to address the roads and storm water maintenance issues.”

He claims all maintenance work is supervised by able and capable metro staff, as well as service providers, in order to ensure quality.

“It will assist if the complainant can provide specifics, which can then be addressed specifically,” Gadebe adds.
