Kindness goes a long way

A dedicated Springsite from Dersley writes:

When I was driving home yesterday, I saw a young man drop his cellphone while he was crossing Nigel Road.

He was probably on his way back from school, as he had his back-pack on him.

With the high rate of oncoming traffic, I could see he thought that would be the end of his phone.

A lady in a white vehicle halted her car and waited for the young man to turn around and pick up his phone.

You could see the young man’s face instantly turn to one of relief.

While the lady in the white car waited, the young man quickly picked up his phone and gave her the most sincere thank you I have witnessed in a while.

She waved back at this young man and proceeded on her way.

Of course this all happened within a space of three minutes while I was waiting at the robots, but the impact was so profound.

To me it signified kindness – a kindness we don’t see any more.

Another motorist would have seen the young man drop his phone a just driven off, maybe even over it, but this lady didn’t.

She didn’t have to display such kindness, but she did because kindness costs nothing.

I love to see such acts in our community because it makes me hopeful that are still good people and they are around us every day.

With Nelson Mandela day coming up, I look forward to seeing many more gestures of warmth, love and kindness.
