The Ekurhuleni Metro has responded to a report about a resident’s concerns regarding the floodlights at Selection Park swimming pool.

Metro spokesman Themba Gadebe says it is the metro’s standard procedure to test floodlights for lux illumination at various testing conditions, once they have been installed.

“Thus far, the testing has been successful and lights have been switched off,” says Gadebe.

“The new LED lights, however, have a much lower energy consumption compared to the old high pressure sodium lights.”

Gadebe adds that the total running costs of the new lights is lower than the old ones.

He says some of the lights on site will be switched on at night.

“This is a security measure due to incidents of theft that were previously experienced on site,” says Gadebe.
