Ekurhuleni spokesman, Themba Gadebe, says the felled trees referred to were cut by a contractor hired by a railway company.

“The metro conducted an investigation regarding the above matter on June 28,” says Gadebe.

“Notice will be served to the railway company to clear the overgrown grass on the railway reserve and the owner of the dilapidated building in 13 Pienaar Road, Selection Park.”

Gadebe says this will be a measure issued to prevent public health hazards and an occurrence of nuisances.

“Follow-up inspections will be conducted to ensure compliance,” he says.

“We are still awaiting comment from the Energy Department regarding the issue of electricity and street lights.”
