New president for Rotary Club of Springs Park

The Rotary Club of Springs Park held its induction dinner for the newly elected club president, Ueli Hiller, on Thursday.

The event commenced at 7pm and Mary Reynolds was the Master of Ceremonies.

Outgoing president, Jos Rokerbrand, says he is looking forward to Ueli Hiller’s term of office as president.

“This is Ueli’s second term of office as president in of our club, so he is not new to the hot seat,” he says.

“He is very capable of executing this task.”

In his address, before inaugurating the new president, Jos reflected on his term of office and its successes and milestones.

One of the highlights mentioned in Jos’ address was the R160 000 hand-over to Muriel Brand School towards the purchase of a new bus.

He also highlighted that 19 learners from Springs Girls’ High, Springs Boys’ High and Springs Technical High School benefited from the Toast-Masters public-speaking course.

These were two of a very long list of strides made by the club in the past year.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate the Anns on the amazing work you did this past year,” adds Jos.

“The list of projects is endless and you certainly made a difference to the lives of people in our community.”

Following his inauguration, newly elected president, Ueli Hiller declared the new year’s theme and mandate as ‘Back to basics for fellows’.

He spoke about his goal to see the club re-affirm and reflect on its commitment to Rotary.

“It is about fun through fellowship and growing Rotary to serve humanity,” says Ueli.

“It is an honour to serve this presidency and I look forward to your support and a successful year.”

District Governor David Grant was also in attendance and briefly addressed the gathering on the topic of ‘Mindfulness’.

“We need to be aware of what we are doing as Rotarians and why we are doing it,” he says.

“We always need to be mindful and united in the common goal of serving humanity.”
