Transporting passengers turns into hijacking drama

Two friends were transporting five men from Etwatwa to Springs when some of the passengers pulled out firearms and pointed it at them on Sunday.

Capt Johannes Ramphora, Springs police spokesman says the two victims, aged 26 and 34 years, were on their way to Springs and while driving through Eastvale, they were hijacked by the five suspects.

The incident took place on the corner of Swartberg and Magato streets between 6.10pm and 6.50pm.

Ramphora says the driver was ordered to sit at the back.

The hijackers drove to an open field where they tied the two friends up with belts and left them stranded.

The suspects took the gold Toyota Avanza and two cellphones.

Ramphora says the victims claim the suspects were dressed with blankets wrapped around them.

The vehicle was allegedly used as a taxi in Daveyton and belonged to one of the victims’ uncle.

No shots were fired.
