Fun with mushrooms

Women VLU Carpe Diem branch celebrated the agricultural theme at the monthly meeting held at Rus 'n Bietjie Retirement Village on Wednesday.

Their host for the day was Louise Fourie, who invited two mushroom experts to talk about the nutritional value of mushrooms.

One of the experts, Sherry Edden, prepared quarter sliced spiced mushrooms in a pepper sauce, which was served to all the 40 people present.

Christa van der Westhuizen, chairman of the club, says the presentation on the process of mushrooms since they are harvested, wrapped and delivered was most interesting and recommends the two experts visit the branch again in the new year.

Each guest received a packet of mushrooms as a gift from the two mushroom experts.
