UPDATE: Teenager witnesses SAPS woman’s murder

A mother of three young children was killed during an alleged robbery.

Capt Johannes Ramphora, Springs SAPS spokesman, has confirmed that the woman who was shot in a park in Rennie Street, Selection Park last night (Thursday) was an SAPS member.

According to him, she was on her way to the Selection Park Train Station to catch a train to work when she was attacked.

He says she was attacked by two unknown, armed men and the motive for her murder is unknown.

A murder case has been opened at the Springs Police Station.

The woman was shot and killed in a park in Rennie Street, Selection Park on Thursday (May 26).

A 14-year-old boy witnessed the shooting at about 4pm.

The sound of the woman screaming drew his attention to the scene.

His father, who wishes not to be named to protect the identity of his son, says his son saw a woman lying on her stomach on the grass in the park.

The father says his son claims he saw the woman was holding both her hands in the air, holding her handbag.

He claims his son then witnessed a man holding a gun fire two shots at the woman’s head.

“My son allegedly saw the man picking up something and run away,” he says.

According to the father the boy is traumatized and he has arranged for a counsellor to talk to his son.

Brig Thenduka Gwebushe, Springs police station commander, was on the scene as well as other police and EMPD officers.

The deceased’s three children, aged between four and 12 years were at the scene under the supervision of chaplains and a Zulu speaking pastor.

According to witnesses, the chaplains on the scene got hold of the children’s father who was on his way home from work.

The police were still at the scene of the crime at 8pm and could give no further information while they conducted their investigation on scene.
