The operation was held between 2pm and 10pm and the EMPD concentrated mainly on First, Second and Third streets, in the CBD and Welgedacht and Geduld areas.
Wilfred Kgasago, EMPD spokesman, says their efforts yielded 102 undocumented people from various African countries.
The 20 females and 82 males were all detained at the Springs Police Station.
The arrested illegals included
- eight men aged between 25 and 30 years are from Ghana;
- nine Ethiopians aged between 32 and 40 years;
- five Congolese men, aged between 25 and 49 years;
- seventy Zimbabweans, 10 women and 60 men, aged between 22 and 45 years;
- and 10 Nigerians, aged between 30 and 33 years.
They were charged in terms of the Immigration Act, 13 of 2002.
The illegal immigrants are expected to appear in the Springs Magistrate’s Court soon.
