African is dominant in Ekurhuleni

“People who today claim some French-Canadian ancestry or heritage number some seven million in Canada …” 'Wikipedia article on French Canadians'.

According to the results of the 2011 Census, 6.9 million people in South Africa then had Afrikaans as their first language.

Education at Canadian universities in French is very big, while, due to politics, Afrikaans as a medium of instruction at South African universities has recently been under serious threat.

I recommended, in a research report and planning document completed for the Ekurhuleni Metro at the end of June 2014, that the option be kept open of the Brakpan campus of a recommended four-campus comprehensive university in the city, with the other campuses in Kempton Park, Alberton, and Springs, being partly parallel medium English and Afrikaans.

Significant proportions of the Afrikaans first language speakers in South Africa live in Ekurhuleni and Mpumalanga.

Ekurhuleni is a highly accessible place for potential Afrikaans first language students who live further away, and particularly for people who live in the provinces other than theWestern Cape.
