Esda celebrates nurses

Esda Frail Care and Community Centre commemorated its nurses as well as nurses around the world on International Nurses' Day with a celebratory breakfast on Friday.

“This is just our way of showing our nurses that we care and to thank them for their hard work,” said Petro Burr-Dixon, the administrative manager of the centre.

Petro further emphasised that the qualities needed in someone who does the work of the nurses are very rare.

She said that it takes a lot of selflessness to dedicate one’s time, energy, and love towards taking care of the frail.

“The nurses work so hard,” she said, “they dedicate their hearts, their time, and their lives to ensuring they do their best to take care of the frail.”

The nurses partook in a candle-lighting ceremony to commemorate the day, and they also read out the nurses’ pledge as a way of renewing and refreshing the mandate that they have.

The proceedings were ended off with a prayer and a vote of thanks from the Esda management team.

“We are glad to be able to do this for our nurses,” said Petro, “it is important that they know they are appreciated and are very special to us (as the management) and to our patients.”
