Suspects flee scene in stolen BMW

An attempted business robbery in Fourth Street, CBD was linked to the high-speed chase of a white BMW that ended in Pollak Park on Tuesday.

According to Springs police spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora, two men, one armed with a pistol, entered the Volume Two bottle store in Fourth Street just before 8am, and demanded money.

The armed suspect pointed a gun at the owner and when the owner informed the suspect that he didn’t have money, the suspect hit the owner in the face with the firearm.

Ramphora says something must have disturbed the suspects, as they left the bottle store without taking anything.

The suspects were seen jumping into a white BMW 320d that was reported stolen in Yeoville, Johannesburg in October 2015.

A high-speed chase between EMPD Tracing Unit and SAPS Intelligence Unit ended in Springs West Road, where the vehicle was found abandoned.

Ramphora says a 9mm pistol with four live rounds of ammunition were found in the vehicle.

The suspects escaped on foot.
