Photos: Paul Kruger Highway accident claims life of woman

A woman died at the scene of an accident in Paul Kruger Highway in Dersley just after 5am today (Monday).

She was a passenger in a Toyota Camry travelling from Springs towards the N12 highway.

According to an EMPD officer at the scene, the driver of the Camry lost control of the vehicle, collided with a lamp post and then hit a Toyota bakkie.

Witnesses to the accident called the ambulance services who arrived within minutes of the call.

Paramedics declared the woman dead on the scene.

When EMPD officers Louis Els and Louwtjie du Toit arrived on the scene they found the body of the Camry torn into two pieces due to the impact of the accident.

The driver and passenger of the bakkie substained serious injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

There was a service dog being transported in a cage at the back of bakkie which was also seriously injured.

It is not known what happened to the dog.

The driver of Camry also sustained serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

Paul Kruger Highway, travelling from the N12 towards the CBD, was closed to traffic until around 7.20am and traffic was diverted through Dersley Park causing severe congestion in morning traffic.

A case of culpable homicide and negligent and reckless driving was opened at the Springs Police Station.
