Springs CBD CPF on the cards

Residents of Springs CBD attended a meeting at the Springs Police Station to establish the need of a community police forum (CPF) in Sector One last Monday.

W/O Ferdi de Waal, the Sector One manager, and Ahmed Coughly, deputy chairman of the Springs CPF, enlightened the guests with what the duty and responsibilities of a CPF entails.

“It is important to know that the CPF is a forum that is a link between the police and the community,” says Coughly.

He made it clear that the CPF members, once established, should not try and take over the task and duties of the police, but rather assist them in fighting crime.

“We have to be the eyes and ears of the police,” he says.

De Waal says a committee needs to be elected and this committee will fall under the Sector One CBD Policing Forum.

“It is better to have a committee elected and after that is in place, to start a WhatsApp group for communication,” he says.

The guests were all eager to elect a committee, but asked the assistance of the Addie to get the word out that more residents are needed to come to the next meeting which will take place this Monday (April 25) at the SAPS boardroom.
