Robbers use toy gun to rob business

Two suspects were arrested for business robbery on Monday after they held up the owner of a business in Libya Street, Slovo Park, with a toy gun.

The police arrested the suspects, aged 20 and 30, at 8.30am, after they were stopped by an officer while on routine patrol in the area.

Springs police spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora says the police arrested both suspects and found a toy gun, cash and cigarettes in their possession.

According to Ramphora the suspects entered the mini market when one of them pulled out the toy firearm and demanded cash from the business owner.

The suspects fled on foot after they took cigarettes and an undisclosed amount of cash.

Ramphora says the suspects were taken to the police station where they were charged with business robbery.

They are expected to appear in the Springs Magistrate’s Court soon.
