Tree will be removed

“The tree in Hadeda Street, Daggafontein, will hopefully have been removed by Monday,” says Themba Gadebe, Ekurhuleni Metro spokesman.

Gadebe apologised for the inconvenience caused.

This comes after Ron Tomsett turned to the Addie for assistance after he received no reaction from the metro since February.

“The tree fell over in February due to the heavy rains experienced in Springs at the time,” he says.

He was grateful that the tree missed the fence around his house; however, it damaged the streetlight.

But this is a miracle to Tomsett as the streetlight is suddenly working again.

“There are only three lamp posts in our street which haven’t worked for years, and although the lamp post leans forward after it was hit by the tree, there is light again,” he says.

“But wait, this isn’t the fun part – the light now only burns during the day and it is off at night.”

The residents of this short street have cut the grass on the pavements in front of their premises themselves, as they feel they cannot wait for the metro to do it.

“It will just never happen because they never clean up or fix anything in this area,” says Tomsett.

Although this particular lamp post only shed some light during the day, darkness is still inevitable.
