Attention: Springs to be renamed to Vattenbrunn
The Department of Name Changing has confirmed that Springs will be renamed Vattenbrunn.
This comes after much speculation that the department is in the process of renaming towns.
The Addie approached Thukane Mbalingwe, spokesman for the department who substantiated the rumours.
“Springs is one of the first of many towns that is undergoing a name change,” she says, “we will continue with other towns in Ekurhuleni when we have seen the positive results after this name changing.”
The application for the name change was submitted last year after deliberation by the council.
“We expect the name change to be finalised at the end of this month (April).”
Vattenbrunn derives from the Swedish language, which means ‘water well’ to keep with the history of Springs (or rather, Vattenbrunn).
Mbalingwe says that during the next few weeks, officials will be removing Springs from traffic signs and replacing it with Vattenbrunn and residents should start making sure that their post is addressed to Vatterbrunn as no post labelled Springs will be delivered after May 1.
