Women reigns at golf challenge

Almost 114 golfers entered the Easter Weekend Golf Challenge hosted by The Springs Country Club over the weekend.

Wikus Nel and Johan van Deventer are the overall winners with 192 points.

The women were challenged by the men on Friday in a Betterball Stableford format and “The women were the overall winners of the battle,” says Merlene Nel, executive committee member.

Adele Vermaak and Marike Visser were the winners with 48 points, with Ilana Prinsloo and Magda Pienaar in second place with 46 points.

Although the men had to bow to the women, Themba Shoyisa and Johan Venter are the winners with 44 points followed by Deon Vermaak and Hendrik Visser with 42 points.

Johan Hattingh took Nearest the Pin at hole two, Lemé Stander at hole eight, Japie Theron at hole 12 and Piet de Wet at hole 15.

The Betterball Stableford two scores, to count on par three, were played on Saturday with Jaco Botha and Chandré Rheeder as winners with 56 points.

With a three point difference Frans du Toit and Dries Beukes took second place with 53 points.

Jaco Botha took Nearest the Pin at hole two, Chris Erasmus at hole eight, and Vernon Hendrikse at hole 12.

On Sunday the golfers played a Betterball Multiplier where the points of the partners were multiplied.

The winners of this competition are Piet de Wet and his wife Rentia de Wet with 77 points.

Hendrik Visser took Nearest the Pin at hole two and Rentia at hole eight.

One Easter Monday the golfers played in the Betterball Combined Stableford where the partners points were added together leaving Wikus and Johan as the winners with 66 points.

Wikus also took Nearest the Pin at hole 12 with Deon Beck and Tersia Beck taking honours at hole 15.

Merlene says it was great to see all the members having fun during the golf challenge.
