‘We only want your vehicle’ – hijacking on Paul Kruger Highway

A charcoal Toyota Hilux double cab was hijacked on Paul Kruger Highway on Saturday and its owner assaulted.

The driver of the vehicle was stopped by the driver of a white Citi Golf with blue lights and a siren at 11.30am.

Capt Johannes Ramphora, Springs police spokesman, says as soon as the driver of the Hilux stopped, two more vehicles approached.

A white BMW and a white Audi A4 stopped at the scene and the driver of the BMW pretended to ask for directions.

Ramphora says the BMW driver turned the key in the ignition of the Hilux and ordered the driver to lie down in the vehicle.

The suspect assaulted the driver of the Hilux by slapping him.

While this was happening, three more suspects got into the Hilux and demanded cash.

The suspects took R7 600 in cash from the Hilux driver and shared it among themselves and informed the driver that they only wanted his double cab.

Ramphora says the suspects took the vehicle and the driver to a smallholding close by where they disarmed the tracking device.

They were followed by the BMW and the Audi.

The suspects drove around with the Hilux driver to an unknown place where they asked him to get out of the vehicle and get into the Audi.

They also took the Hilux driver’s firearm and dropped him off close to the Kliprivier Police Station, where the driver opened a case of hijacking .

It is not known exactly how many suspects were involved in the hijacking.

“The case was transferred to Springs and the police are investigating the case,” says Ramphora.
