Sewage leak poses health risk

Selcourt resident Regina Mayimela has been waiting for the Ekurhuleni metro to react to her call about an overflowing drain for more than a week.

She reported the blocked drain on the pavement on Wednesday and says her son, Maimela Mayimela (4), cannot play outside because the sewage spill is like a dam in her yard.

She feels the metro should react immediately when there is an overflowing sewage drain as it poses a health risk.

“Keeping my son inside for the whole day is not fair, because he cannot understand why the water is not suitable to play in,” she says.

The drain started overflowing on Wednesday but is getting worse by the day.

Regina feels helpless as she has to watch how the filthy water fills up her garden and driveway.

She says it not only poses a health risk, but also that the stench unbearable.

Why the metro has still made no effort to come out by the weekend, Regina does not know.

She had to go away with her son as she doesn’t want him to get sick from the water or the smell.

The Addie has sent questions to the metro but received no comment at the time of publishing.
