Duo remain in custody

The cases of the three suspects arrested after the murder of EMPD Maj Coert Jordaan (39) have been postponed following their appearances in the Springs Magistrate's Court last week.

The first two suspects appeared before magistrate Cornel Pretorius last Wednesday.

Prior to their last appearance they were appointed legal aid lawyers, however one of the men has opted to employ his own lawyer and the matter was therefore, postponed to allow his new lawyer to prepare.

They did not make bail as planned.

The duo will sit in court again on Thursday as they stand accused of Jordaan’s murder, possession of unlicensed firearms, robbery with aggravated circumstances and the possession of a stolen vehicle.

They remain in custody at Modderbee Prison pending their next appearance.

The third accused who appeared last Monday before magistrate Collen Mashigo is now set to appear again on March 31 after his case was also postponed.

During his appearance he applied for and was granted bail of R2 000, with one of the bail conditions being to appear and sign at the police station every Monday.

He is appearing for allegedly buying Jordaan’s service pistol from one of the murder suspects, but is not involved in the murder according to the first two accused.
