Clean water runs through Springs

A burst pipe which was streaming clean, drinking water left residents seeking urgent assistance from the Ekurhuleni Metro on Thursday afternoon.

Muriel Pienaar (46) phoned the Ekurhuleni Metro as soon as she saw the pipe had burst on the corner of 7th Street and 8th Avenue.

“This is the second time this has happened in less than a month.

“On January 30 the pipe burst for the first time.”

Muriel, who lives near where the pipe burst, feels that the infrastructure is too old and damaged and needs to be replaced.

“When metro came to fix the pipe, the manhole was left uncovered until the metro returned last week,” adds Muriel.

Another local, Themba Mabuza (35), who works at a nearby company also called the metro regarding the burst pipe as soon as he saw the water streaming along the road.

“The water is clean, running water and it is going to waste,” says Themba.

Muriel says that the problem needs to be rectified by the metro soon because the wastage of this water is a serious issue.

Metro is yet to comment on when the pipe will be fixed.
