Springs Wheelers cycling club prepares for upcoming cycle challenges

The Springs Wheelers are getting all geared up for their upcoming cycle races.

Raymond van Deventer (39), from the Springs Wheelers, is getting ready to cycle in the Carnival City Macsteel National Classic Cycle Race on February 21, which comprises of a 121km route for the elite men and licensed veterans, as well as the customary route of 103km and 65km road races.

Licenced under 16 boys ca take part in the 103km ride.

The event is organised as a fund-raiser and all profits go to Rotary Community Projects, the Rotary Foundation, Germiston Wheelers Charity Projects and the development of amateur cycling in South Africa.

This will be the 32nd year of the cycle race which starts and finishes at Carnival City.

Adele Lawrence (56), also from the Springs Wheelers Club, is preparing to compete in another cycling competition, the Sani2C bike race which will be held in May.

The 300km three-day stage race starts in Underberg and finishes in Scotttburgh.

The Springs Wheelers Club meets every Saturday to cycle an average of 60km and the members are going to be participating and assisting with the Ride for Sight race on February 14.
