Writing competition winners announced
The prize giving for the Caxton and Hirsch's Writing Competition was held recently at Hirsch’s Boksburg.
Elizabeth Burns, from Springs, walked away with the biggest prize of R5000. Second place went to Allyson Barrat (R2000) and third place went to Monique Pinheiro (R1000).
The competition, which has been running for four years with the aim of giving school children in Ekurhuleni and the South of Johannesburg an opportunity to let their talent shine, was sponsored by Hirsch’s Homestore.
To be part of this amazing competition, students where requested to write a story about themselves in 600 words or less.
The Topic: You are 90 years old and sitting on your front porch looking back on your life. Work back from where you are at 90, to when you were 80, to 70, 60, 50, 40, 30, 20 right down to today, the day you read about the creative writing competition.
Close to 200 entries were received and the winners were chosen via a judging panel.
Daniel Seleme, one of the facilitators of the competition, said: “The competition has showcased great and unfounded talent that we have in the country. We urge all writers to continue following their dreams.”
