Suspect points gun at victims

The Springs police have yet to arrest anyone in connection with a business robbery that took place in First Avenue, Bakerton on Friday.

Capt Johannes Ramphora, Springs police spokesman, says the robbers pretended to be customers who wanted to make photocopies at a hair salon.

They entered the salon at 1pm, when one of them pulled out a gun from a school bag and pointed it at the owner of the business and his assistant, and demanded cash.

“They searched the business owner and took R500 in cash from his pocket,” says Ramphora.

After searching the shop, the robbers also took R2 000 in cash, locked the two victims up in a back room in the salon and left the scene.

The owner managed to open the door of the back room to free himself and his assistant and called the police to report the crime.

Although no arrests have been made, Ramphora says the owner claims he knows one of the suspects who live in Everest Informal Settlement.
