Sewage water no longer threatens Blesbokspruit

Ekuruhuleni Metro has fixed the sewage pipe which was leaking into the Blesbokspruit in Daggafontein.

Derek McCaraogher (56) lodged the complaint with the metro after noticing the blocked sewage pipe while he was out cycling in January.

Derek, who is an Edelweiss resident, firmly believes that illegal miners are to blame for the sewage pipe being blocked.

The Addie had previously reported on the sewage pipe which was seen overflowing with water (January 11,Blocked sewage too close to Blesbokspruit.)

The blocked sewage pipe had filthy water running directly towards the Blesbokspruit which is why the metro considered the problem a priority.

Derek was concerned about the effects the sewage water would have on the species living in the Blesbokspruit wetland and is glad metro took his complaint seriously.

The sewage leak has been fixed and Derek is pleased with the results, saying, “I am glad the sewer has been unblocked, I thank metro for their speedy response and by the looks of it, it was a big job.”

He adds,”I’m happy no more sewerage is overflowing, a job well done to the metro.”
