Golden oldies golfers excel

Springs Country Club hosted their annual fund-raising over-50 versus under-50 golf challenge on Saturday.

Two of the 120 golfers who entered the competition, couldn’t make it on the day but the rest played their best shots to find the winners between the over-50 and under-50 players.

The senior golfers, older than 50 years, proved to be the best on the day with a 32-26 win.

According to Bennie de Lange, club chairman, it was the biggest attendance for the past 10 years and he is impressed with the turnout.

Johan Kruger, the over-50 team captain, had his team dressed in red golf shirts while Gawie Greeff’s under-50 team were dressed in light blue golf shirts.

In the combined Stableford and Scramble Drive the results are:

Frikkie Colyn and Harry Muller won the competition with 87 points on count out.

Sheldon Long and Douglas Buckley took second place with 87 points on count out, while Frans du Toit and Hein Venter took third place with 80 on count out.

Arend Grobler got nearest the pin at hole two and Johan Hattingh at hole eight.

At hole 12 Mike Brugman got nearest the pin and at hole 15 it was Nokkie Willemse.

The Nomads will be play on Saturday morning, while the Monthly Medal will be played in the afternoon.

February 13 – Singles Knock-out.

February 20 – Ercil League.
