Sewage problem persists

Ronel Smit is fed-up with the Ekurhuleni Metro's response to their complaint about an overflowing drain in Coaton Avenue, Selection Park.

There are two sewage drains close to their house and as soon as one is blocked the sewage overflows on their premises, leaving a terrible stench.

The Smit family faces a sewage challenge every time it rains or when the drain is blocked somewhere down the street.

“This has been ongoing and the metro doesn’t fix the actual problem,” says Ronel.

Smit admitted that council employees worked at the drain last Wednesday, and that the sewage line was open for a while – until it started raining over the weekend when the sewage pushed up from a drain on the premises.

The rain aggravated the situation and Smit tried to report the overflowing drain again.

She got no answer from the metro call centre on Saturday or from the emergency numbers advertised in the Addie either.

This problem has been a huge headache to the Smit family for the past six years.

She says there seems to be a blockage somewhere at the sewage line which is causing the sewage to overflow in her yard.

The Addie send questions to the metro but received no comment at the time of going to print.
