Bullet goes through man’s hand and hip when shot during robbery

Juan-Pierre 'JP' Wade (29) is recovering in hospital after he was shot by a robber at his house in Snyman Avenue, Wright Park on Monday.

He woke up at 3am to get juice from the kitchen.

When he reached the lounge he saw movement at the sliding door and shouted at his friend, Jarrod Ackerman.

“I shouted at him to wake up as he was asleep in the lounge,” JP says.

It was then that JP noticed a hand and a gun pointing at him from under the pool table in the lounge.

Within seconds he was shot and the two robbers inside the house fled through the damaged security door.

This Wirght Park resident says the robbers gained entry to the lounge by bending the security door at the bottom.

The bullet went through the palm of his right hand into his right hip and out the back.

“Luckily the .38 special bullet missed the bones in my body,” he says.

However, steel pins were put in his hand.

JP refers to the hole in his hand as “the same mark in the hand of Jesus when he was crucified”.

He says the Springs police was quick to respond to their stress call and arrived at the scene within 15 minutes.

Jarrod says he was asleep and woke up to the sound of gunshots.

“I realised JP had been shot and rushed to get him to safety and rushed back to the lounge to get my cellphone to call the police,” he says.

A case of house robbery and attempted murder was opened at the police station.

Capt Johannes Ramphora, Springs police spokesman, confirmed the incident and said no arrests have been made, but the police are investigating the case.
