Dersley residents fed up

Lynette du Preez (32) has lodged numerous complaints about the sewage pipe in Dersley that continuously leaks.

Lynette who lives in Eastvale claims the sewage leak has been a problem for six years without any permanent solution from the Ekurhuleni Metro.

“The water running from the blocked sewage is a health hazard to residents and animals,” says Lynette.

The Addie has previously reported on the Dersley sewage problem:

Another local resident, Stefan du Toit (38), is also fed up with the sewage water that has formed small pools of water along Cloverfield Road.

“The smell is unbelievable and we are definitely heading for a bigger problem if this is not fixed permanently soon,” says Stefan.

Metro has previously responded to complaints about the sewage leak but the problem persists.

“The whole infrastructure needs to be replaced,” says Stefan.

Ward councillor, Ramesh Sheodin says, “Illegal miners are operating in the area and that is why the leak is not being fixed properly, metro has been in Dersley numerous times to fix the pipe but it keeps getting damaged.”

Lynette who drives past the sewage almost daily says, “We as a community need to live with this and we cannot continue with the smell and filthy water anymore, we need immediate action to rectify this continuous problem.”

The Addie is still awaiting comment from the metro regarding the situation in Dersley.
