Armed robbers drive off in vehicle

A man was collecting firewood in Alumina Street, Dersley Park, when three robbers hijacked his vehicle, on Tuesday.

He had parked his Opel Corsa bakkie next to an open field at 12.30pm, and left the driver’s side door open while he was looking for wood.

Capt Johannes Ramphora, Springs police spokesman, says the man claims he was approached by three people, one of whom was carrying with a firearm.

The armed robber pointed the gun at the man, while the other two thugs grabbed him and tied his hands behind his back with an electric cable.

Ramphora says the robbers jumped into the bakkie and drove off.

After a while the man managed to untie himself, ran to a nearby house and asked for help.

The owner of the house took him to the police station, where he opened a case of hijacking and armed robbery.

Ramphora urges the community to come forward and report crime to 10111, or to SMS tip-offs to 32211 (R1/SMS).
