Speed limit in question

Johan Harding (43) was driving along Wit Road, Springs on Friday evening when he was pulled over and fined for speeding.

Johan who was on his way to fetch his son in Dunnottar was pulled over by traffic officers and fined R1 000 for allegedly speeding just after 9pm.

The local resident admits that he was driving 110km per hour but according to Johan the speed limit is 100km per hour as indicated by the road signage.

When he was pulled over he was told that the speed limit is 80km per hour.

He was stopped between Struisbult and Dunnottar.

“I was fined R1 000 for going 110km per hour and I know the limit is 100km per hour,” says Johan. “I was in my company vehicle and I am most certain that the speed limit is not 80km per hour, I did not want to argue with the officer so I accepted the fine.”

EMPD spokesman Kobeli Mokheseng says, “An investigation is underway regarding the complaint of Harding and a request has been sent to the relevant department.”

“I would advise Harding, that if he is not satisfied with the fine received, he should appear on his trial date and present his case,” adds Kobeli.
