Plan your budget

Have you ever wondered where your money goes a few days after pay day?

It seems almost impossible that money disappears so quickly when you have made sure that you didn’t buy anything expensive.

You only went to the shop to buy a few groceries for the month, and ended up with an astronomical amount at the till.

Plan your budget to avoid disappointment through the year.

  • Get a calendar out and mark all important days where you need to spend money, whether it is a birthday or a day of the year when you would usually do something.
  • Make a grocery list of things needed in the house and stick to the list, do not buy luxuries you know you do not need.
  • Pay your monthly debt first before spending money on anything else and divide what is left in four.

This way you will know what you have to spend each week and this will stretch your money until the next pay day, do not overspend on your weekly budget.

  • Do not up your living standards if you cannot afford it.

If you get your yearly increase or a few extra rand for whatever reason, do not go on an insane shopping spree.

Treat yourself a little (you have worked hard to earn it) but remain sensible, put away some of the extra money.

If you are used to not having the extra cash, open a savings account and store the extra monthly income if you do not need it.
