Author’s first book

Daggafontein resident, Jennifer Frier (63), has written her first book for children Mr Flippity Flop and his forest friends.

The book consists of three stories, Mr Flippity Flop and the grasshopper, The fox and the porcupine and The spider and the fly.

Her passion for writing started many years ago, but never materialised as she thought her ‘little stories’ would never get further than her filing system.

She became a housekeeper eight years ago, and had more time to write.

Jennifer saw a frog in a toy store and started writing about him. Then she saw a pack of small insects and spiders and after reading an educational book where she saw a fox and a porcupine, she knew it was time to pen down her stories.

She says there is a lesson to learn in each of the three stories.

Mr Flipitty Flop, a frog and a grasshopper met one morning when the grasshopper challenged the frog by saying he could jump over the pond in one bound. The frog was too clever and in the end the grasshopper became the frog’s meal.

In the Spider and the Fly, a fly called Neligh, planned on leaving the dump where he lived. Lyla, the spider was waiting patiently for him.

The Fox and the Porcupine is about a fox who always teased the little animals after he came back from hunting. But Caroline the porcupine, had had enough and decided to teach him a lesson.

Jennifer hopes children will enjoy reading the book and learn from the lessons in the stories.

“I am very grateful for Kwarts Publishers for helping me when no one else would,” she says.

The book is available on eBook and at My Office Services in Strubenvale.
