100% pass rate for Tamil School

The Bhairavi Sungum of Springs Tamil School students recently wrote the National Tamil School exams and once again maintained a 100% pass rate.

The students all passed with distinctions in the Tamil language.

This language is spoken by a significant minority of people (two million) in north-eastern Sri Lanka and it was the first language of the Indian state TamlNadu.

Kesavan Pillay, chairman of the Bairaivi Sungum of Springs, says the exam was coordinated by the head of South African Tamil Federation’s Education Desk, Dr Bull Murugan.

To date, the Sungum has produced six students who wrote and passed Tamil as an additional language in matric, all achieving distinctions.

At the awards ceremony the chairman’s award was presented to all nine students who achieved 100%.

Kesavan says the students also received certificates for their contribution in the promotion of the Hindu Arts and Culture which was presented by the Tamil Federation of Gauteng.

“This is yet another great achievement by our Tamil school,” says Kesavan.

He says it would not be possible if it wasn’t for the teacher Saranam Naicker and the dedicated officials of the Sungum’s Education Desk.

The Bhairavi Sungum of Springs is focused and committed in maintaining the great Tamil Language and Culture.

The organisation urges the community to take advantage of its facilities in the East Rand by contacting Poovershree Pillay of the Sungum’s education committee on 072 693 7808.

Floating, as well as outright, trophies were awarded to all students. The Sungum’s youngest pupil, five-year-old Tharun Pillay who is in Grade R got a 100% pass.

“A pupil at this tender age who not only knows his work but the pronunciation of his Tamil words in commendable,” said the SATF Chief adjudicator Dr Bull Murugan.
